Professional Development

About Professional Development

From Site Visits to Dinner & Discussions, our Professional Development program consists of events that enhance our members' professionalism and prepare them for industry.

Our Professional Development events are connected to the BuildU tracks, which cover skills that are crucial for engineers in professional settings.

SWE members who attend one event from each of the 3 categories below will be awarded the SWE-TAMU BuildU Certificate and an extra SWE point at the end of the semester.

If you have a question about any of these events, please reach out to development@swetamu.org.

Industry Exploration Events

These events connect members with industry partners to provide real-world insights into various engineering fields. Opportunities such as Dinner & Discussions and site visits allow members to engage directly with professionals, explore company cultures, and gain a deeper understanding of career possibilities.

Technical Workshops

These hands-on sessions focus on building technical proficiency in widely-used engineering tools and software platforms. Members will have the opportunity to strengthen their skills in programs such as SolidWorks, Python, MATLAB, MultiSim, etc.

Workplace Success Events

Designed to prepare members for professional environments, these events focus on developing essential soft skills. Through workshops on public speaking, leadership, communication, and more, members will gain the confidence and tools needed to thrive in collaborative and dynamic workplace settings.

PD Office Hours

Our PD Officers will be holding office hours to assist members with resumes and LinkedIn profiles. Whether you are getting started with your resumes or just need them to be reviewed, we are here to help you with the process! We can also help with practicing for an interview, reviewing your ETAM essays, and more!

Emma Johansson

Howdy! My name is Emma Johansson, and I'm a junior computer engineering major from McKinney, TX. My journey in SWE began my freshman year as a LEAP Mentee, and since then, I've continued as a mentee each semester while also serving on the STEMFest Design Committee. I’m so excited to serve as a PD Co‑Chair and help every member reach their potential with confidence and purpose. Outside of SWE, I love traveling, sweet treats, movies, tennis, and wildlife. I’m looking forward to working with everyone this year!
